Exercising Faith

FREE WILL. It's a good theological concept for debate, but also an important concept in the world of fitness. I've discovered the easiest thing in life is to skip a workout. Perseverance is required to stick with an exercise and fitness routine.

In Romans 5:3-4, Paul writes, "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." I'm quite certain Paul was not referring to fitness when he wrote his letter, but the same principles apply. Just as our faith is strengthened through suffering, our bodies can be strengthened as we push them beyond perceived limits. And just as we need self-discipline in our spiritual lives to develop good spiritual habits, we also need it to create and stick to regular exercise habits. Quitting is easy ... but good stewards will push through the hard times to reap the promised reward.


1 - THINK POSITIVE - Your body believes what you tell it, so think positive!

2 - EAT YOUR VEGGIES - Aim for 5 servings each day. The vegetables with the boldest colors are the most powerful (broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, grapes, leafy greens, etc.).

3 - GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP - Darken your bedroom and turn your clock away from you. Write down your worries to get them out of your head. It helps to put them into perspective when you can see them, not just think them.
